Known most commonly as nourishment, nutrition is something we all need in order to survive. However, the proper balance of nutrition does more than keep you alive; it helps you to thrive as a fit, healthy person. If you want some great nutrition tips to get healthy, then you need to read this article.

Here’s a scary one. Have you ever wondered why dogs only live 10 to 15 years while humans live typically 60 years or more? It all lies within our cells and our metabolism where oxygen plays a big part. Oxygen moves energy throughout our cells breaking the carbs we consume into energy. The problem is, oxygen also breaks down our cells in the same process. This is called “oxidation.” But our cells also have a buffer against the oxygen, these are called “antioxidants” and are prevalent in fruits and veggies.

Dogs have faster metabolisms than humans, which breaks down energy quicker and pumps much more oxygen into the cells. The cells die faster because of oxidation. Dogs also don’t or can’t eat many fruits and veggies, which carry those all important antioxidants.

While humans have slower metabolisms, you can actually speed yours up almost to the speed of a dog’s, simply by eating pure sugar, which the body converts to energy almost immediately. Pure sugar is a high energy carb. Cells turn the sugar into energy, but harm the cells in the process. Cells take time to grow back and they don’t grow back indefinitely! So if you want to live a longer life, eat lots of fruits and veggies and keep away from the pure sugar!

Start replacing all your regular snacks for healthier options. Instead of eating chips and cookies replace them with fruit or yogurt. You will not only notice the difference after a few weeks when you do this but it will also help give you more energy when you exercise, remember you are what you eat.

Vitamin D is an important part of a healthy diet. It assists in bone and teeth formation by maintaining calcium and phosphorous levels in the body. Vitamin D also helps in immune function and cell growth. Lowering cancer risk is yet another benefit of vitamin D.

Eat roasted beets when you have a sugar craving because it is healthier than eating a dessert and it can be just as sweet. Beets contain a lot of natural sugars, and they concentrate when they are cooked down. Your body will break this sugar down much faster than those you would have consumed from a dessert.

A great nutrition tip is to not order appetizers when you eat out at restaurants. An appetizer can easily turn into a whole meal and when combined with the rest of your order, it can wreck your fitness goals. Pass on the appetizers and just order the main course.

To help your body fight off diseases, eat plenty of foods containing Vitamin D. Vitamin D helps to regulate your body’s immune system responses, and lowers the risk of many infections. It can also prevent chronic fatigue. Foods rich in Vitamin D include salmon, eggs, and tuna. Milk is another excellent source.

Meat is a very important source of protein nutrition. Leans meats can make you feel fuller longer, offer your body a fuel source, and help you reduce weight gain. You should avoid fatty meats or meat that is deep fried. This can actually add more unneeded calories into your diet.

To get great nutrition every day, eat a large bowl of oatmeal or granola for breakfast. Have a big salad or a sandwich on whole grain bread with lots of veggies for lunch. Snack abundantly on fresh fruits and veggies. Have only one serving of whatever you are preparing or serving for dinner, and avoid snacking after dinner. This balanced approach will provide good nutrition and weight control.

Be a good nutrition role model for your child and give them an early head start on eating healthy. If you like to munch on raw vegetables, your child will do the same. If you snack with a candy bar, your child learns that candy is good eating. Offer only healthy choices when it’s time for a snack.

Slap some peaches, apples, pineapple, banana and other fruit on the grill and get ready for a real treat! Fresh fruit makes a wonderful addition to a backyard cookout. You don’t have to eat it raw though! Cook it right alongside the lean hamburger and turkey franks!

Eat regularly and be sure not to skip meals. When you start to miss meals your body starts to hold on to foods you eat and use them as a reserve. This means that you should try to at least have a snack when you are feeling hungry.

To make it easier to get the most out of your pregnancy nutrition, start with small changes, like trading those sugary cereals for healthy whole grain cereals. Whole grains provide good carbohydrates to give you the energy you need. Make sure you read the package to see if the words “whole grain” are listed.

Eat oatmeal for breakfast. Oatmeal is a great source of fiber, protein and whole grains. It will fill you up, keep you full and help to clean the cholesterol out of your system. Oatmeal can be eaten plain, or with whole fruit added to sweeten it up.

Most fast foods are laden with fat and salt. If you cut them out of your diet you should stop craving them so much after a couple of weeks. This is because your body will become accustomed to tasting natural salt in foods and these would then be much too salty for you to eat.

As stated at the start, nutrition is simply nourishment and having the proper nourishment is what allows you to always feel your best. It’s not something that’s going to happen overnight, but if you want to balance your nutrition, the tips in the above article will definitely help you do just that.
